College Student Counseling & Coaching

As exciting as it can be to receive that long-awaited college acceptance and leave home for the first time, many students discover that college life doesn't exactly match their expectations. Roommate issues, academic stress, relationship struggles, and adjusting to a new environment without familiar support can feel isolating and overwhelming. For others, college has been great, but graduation is getting close and they find themselves overwhelmed by the tasks and conflicting emotions of their last year--including the stress of finding a job! For students who are navigating college while also managing any type of medical issue, disability, or neurodivergence, normal stress can quickly be magnified. Whatever your individual challenges may be, counseling with me offers an opportunity to be heard, supported, and to learn vital tools to manage stress, compensate for personal challenges, make healthy decisions, heal from unexpected events, and avoid falling behind or turning to unhealthy coping strategies.
I love working with college students--both male and female! Having graduated from UGA, myself, and recently celebrated my son's graduation from UGA, I understand that attending college in an academically competitive and rigorous environment can quickly bring mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, OCD, and ADHD-related overwhelm to the forefront of a student's attention. However, I've also seen how effective therapy can be in helping students reappraise their challenges and find solutions to keep them moving forward. With experience teaching at UGA, helping my own son get through college, and supporting many undergraduates and grad students in counseling and group settings, I understand very well the pressures today's students face. Though it can be hard to fit therapy into a busy schedule, it can be one of the best investments students can make in themselves for finding meaning, purpose, and satisfaction in the present and future.
